Abstract
Background: Chronic migraine is a condition defined by the occurrence of at least 15 headache days every month for more than 3 months. Individuals with chronic migraine often experience disability and decreased quality of life. Chronic migraine is a disease that requires the use of preventive drugs, but information on their use is insufficient in Korea. Therefore, this study investigated the current status of preventive drugs for chronic migraine.

Methods: We analyzed the medical records of patients diagnosed with chronic migraines between May 2019 and February 2021. We collected information on the demographics, total duration of headache, frequency of headaches, Headache Impact Test-6, the use of migraine prevention drugs, and the types.

Results: This study included 101 patients with chronic migraine. The mean total duration of chronic migraines was 98.5¡¾88.5 month, and the mean headache frequency was 21.3¡¾5.7 days every month. Thirty patients (29.7 %) with chronic migraine were on prophylactic medication to reduce headache attacks. Topiramate was used most commonly, followed by propranolol.

Conclusion: In this study, about one-third of chronic migraine patients were using migraine prophylactic drugs, and topiramate was the most frequently used prophylactic drug.
